THE LONG LIFE OF AMARONE IN THE NEW TEDESCHI FAMILY ARCHIVE

We have recently inaugurated the Tedeschi family wine archive, a “library” of labels produced across the years that tells the story of the enological evolution of Valpolicella and the longevity of Amarone. This organoleptic patrimony is now open to the public to welcome collectors, those working in haute cuisine, and wine lovers.

The archive hall is a true treasure chest for collectors across the world, a tool to further the knowledge of specialized workers, and an opportunity for the restaurant sector to expand their own wine lists. In the hall, one can discover countless examples of the “Tedeschi style” that allow for the exploration of the impact of time on the Amarone wine and the revelation of as yet undiscovered dimensions.

Within the twilight of the archive, a massive wooden table occupies the length of the hall around which fine metal structures rise up to hold bottles of different Crus arranged by vintage and label. Exclusively conceived and realized by a Veronese artisan, it is expertly lit by horizontal illumination to create an intimate and cozy atmosphere. A large fireplace in the hall was retrofitted to hold large format bottles.

The hall holds approximately 6,800 bottles of a total collection of approximately 27,000 bottles of older vintage wines. In addition to tastings, vintage wines from the 2000s are available for sale. Earlier vintages, which are scarcer in quantity, are destined for exclusive vertical tastings. The inauguration of the archive was celebrated with a tasting of historic vintages that thrilled the fortunate few who were present at the event.

“It is the sum of our family’s work and an homage to the value of our territory – explains   Riccardo Tedeschi -. Its scope, however, is not merely celebratory but also a willingness to create a space that suggests a different point of view of our Amarone, an eclectic wine that whether fresh or aged lends itself to diverse gastronomic pairings. Because, as our father Lorenzo has always taught us, to produce an Amarone that has the ability to age over a long period of time, you must first produce a great wine.”
