In 2018, Tedeschi began a path of voluntary sustainability certification, addressing the process from every angle with particular attention to the ethical demands required in specific markets.

Today, the winery is certified in accordance with the standards of Biodiversity Friend ed Equalitas, a distinctive project dedicated to sustainability in the wine sector that integrates good social, environmental, and economic practices with precise measurement indicators. Included in the principal requirements for certification is the preparation of a sustainability report that analyzes different critical areas, defines objectives, and delineates improvement actions. The certification also requires the evaluation of both carbon and water balance for the entire organization as well as for the winery cru.

Climate Change

Withstanding the heat, knowing how to defend against burning, ripening as late as possible. These are only some of the challenges that climate change has imposed on the grapes of Valpolicella. Tedeschi has been experimenting with new vine cultivation techniques to manage climate change in the best way possible.

Those who love our wine deserve to witness our efforts as we look towards the future. Climate change has challenged us to remain vigilant and respectful as we protect the territory and our heritage, which is the first part of sustainability.

Zoning and soil characterization

Tedeschi has always invested in the understanding and protection of the environment. In accordance with this approach, starting in 2010, the winery launched a broad soil zonation and characterization program in the regions of  Maternigo (Eastern Valpolicella) and Valpolicella Classica. Through the pedological study of the vineyards, zonation provides a greater understanding of how the different characteristics of the land influence the development of the grapevines, providing an essential tool for high quality viticulture.

Under the guidance of Riccardo Tedeschi, the winery has expanded this approach by incorporating an even more in-depth analysis of the soil and plants with the clear objective to understand if vineyards with similar characteristics respond in  the very same way and how the micro-differences influence the development of the grapevines. This continuous research has allowed Tedeschi to enrich their agronomic and enological skill set and orient their production choices towards quality that reflects greater awareness and sustainability.
